New chairman at the National Judicial Council

At the press conference dr. Tamás Gerber, former chairman of the NJC gave an account about the activity and the results of the Council in the past year. He presented the most significant decisions of the NJC were made during this time. He reported that the NJC put the dispute about the draft of the act which is about the transformation of the administrative judicature that was prepared by the Ministry of Justice on the agenda. According to the Fundamental Law of Hungary NJC supervises the central administration of courts; the NJC and other judicial self-government bodies collaborate in the administration of courts. The tasks of the NJC are detailed in the Act CLXI of 2011 on the Organization and Administration of the Courts. NJC empphasises the necessity of complete harmony between the Fundamental Law of Hungary, the organization act and the planned regulation - also with regard to the powers.

Dr. Tünde Handó, the President of the NOJ emphasized that the programs were started by the NOJ are more and more popular like the „Open courts”, the „Child-centered jurisdiction” and she also highlighted the importance of the collection and share of good practice.

She told about the actual system and efficiency of administrative and labour jurisdiction.

Dr. István Hajdu, the new chairman of the NJC told about the tasks of the next half year and highlighted the goal of determination of judge applications become as objective as possible. To fulfill this goal, the amendment of the NJC's recommendation about the connecting decree of the Ministry of Administration and Justice will be grounded on practical experiences. He also told about that the NJC keeps track of the practical emergence of the regulation about the administration of courts which came into effect this year. They focus especially on the experiences of small courts. The Council also proposed the control of the provisions of the integrity regulation which has also came into effect this year. They are also focused on the codification activity and they are following the regulations of the civil, criminal and administrative procedures
