II. Alternative Dispute Settling Conference

The National Office for the Judiciary, the Hungarian National Bank and the Financial Arbitration Board organises the Alternative Dispute Settling Conference this year again, which will be held on the 28th and 29th of September 2017, at the headquarters of the Hungarian Academy of Sciences.
The judicial organization has provided a free alternative dispute settling opportunity – judicial mediation – since 2012, connected to both litigious and non-litigious proceedings. By the end of 2014 the judicial mediation network was complete, a training system had been established and judicial mediation had been going on in all major courts. Today, there are already approximately 130 mediators working at 70 of the major courts. In the first half of 2017, more than 500 mediation procedures were carried out at the Hungarian courts, out of which in 310 cases the parties have managed to reach an agreement.
The achieved results are verified by the fact that the Hungarian courts are in the first place on the EU Justice Scoreboard – set up by the European Commission – concerning promoting and encouraging the use of alternative dispute settling methods.
The experts at the II. Alternative Dispute Settling Conference will discuss the role of alternative dispute settling in the economy and the impact of higher education on non-judicial dispute settling.
At the two-day long event the participants will discuss alternative dispute settling methods for reconciling mutual interests, and their competitivness, and the faculties of law playing a significant role in teaching alternative dispute settling methods will also present their results.
