Celebrating judges and courts – European Day of Civil Justice in the NOJ

We must maintain strength and unity, to maintain the trust of the people in our service, emphasized dr. Tünde Handó, the president of the National Office for the Judiciary in her solemn opening speech on the European Day of Civil Justice. According to the president of the NOJ, the mission of the courts of the 21th century is a strong and unified judicial organization, to guard Hungary's sovereignty.
Tünde Handó added that programs launched in recent years, such as open court, court mediation, witness care, digital court or the Sustainable Values Program, are designed precisely to meet the challenges of the 21st century.
Trust, expertise, convenience: these are the basic requirements of modern justice – began his welcome speech dr. Peter Darák, the president of the Curia in the lobby of the National Office for the Judiciary. This day was created 17 years ago with the intent of raising citizens' awareness of the operation of justice and of their rights to justice, he added.
Péter Darák stressed that it is extremely important to raise awareness of the values of the legal culture and to do so every day of the year in order to increase legal awareness and the legal knowledge of citizens.
In her speech, dr. Judit Varga, the Minister of Justice, emphasized that the Council of Europe and the European Commission have created the European Day of Civil Justice to bring citizens closer to justice. Judit Varga stressed the importance of access to justice and strengthening confidence in the justice system.
The Minister of Justice also praised the publication "We are judges ...". She said that the volume seeks answers to the most important questions of the judicial profession, passing on the knowledge of the great ancestors, and the old words prove that the judges of the past and those of the present see the world in the same way throughout history.
At the festive event dr. Nikoletta Szabó, judge at the Miskolc Regional Court, revived the life path of dr. György Pálinkás, marked by a deep dedication to the judiciary, conscience and thoroughness, and his judgments are still referred to today.
Two piano pieces by Judge András Verebi-Végh and „Hazám, hazám” from the opera Bánk Bán were played at the event, and the participants could hear several guiding thoughts from the publication „We are Judges”. The president of the NOJ handed over the volume to the representatives of the courts and tribunals.
