Consilium Peritorum: judges, assistant judges and trainee judges appointed this year were welcomed

There is no future without past – reminded the President of the National Office for the Judiciary (NOJ) the participants of the Consilium Petitorium which is held since 2014 for the recently appointed judges, assistant judges and trainee judges. In front of the 300 participants Dr. Tünde Handó talked about the importance of the care of traditions and the research of the history of the judiciary. The NOJ does its best to reveal the stories of great persons which may give help to judges in their everyday work - she said, then added: the good judge is just, learned, impartial and always loyal to his or her country. János Verebi Végh judge of the Curia and composer or György Mailáth country judge and first president of the Curia just a few examples for that.

Dr. Péter Darák, president of the Curia also welcomed the participants. He highlighted the spread of the digital world and its consequences which effect the judiciary as well. The court system searches for the furture, which require complex thinking. After the welcome speeches the president of NOJ and the president of the Curia gave certificates to 165 recently appointed judges, assistant judges and trainee judges.

In memory of judge György Mailáth, the participants could watch a trial symulation performance entitled „Fiat Iustitia” trial of the murderers of György Mailáth. Dr. Barna Mezey Head of the Department of Hungarian Legal and Political History, Faculty of Law, Eötvös Loránd University held a presentation on the reform of the Hungarian justice system, including the career of György Mailáth.

Consilium Peritorum was ended with giving the awards to the winners of the György Mailáth Scientific Competition. 58 applicants with 66 thesis in 4 sections applied this year. The most popular topics were damages, performance management and the renewal of the clients’ information day with the name of Clients’ Help Service.

On the first day of the event dr. Judit Gyarmathy, vice-president of the NOJ and dr. András Osztovits, Director of the Hungarian Academy of Justice welcomed the new trainee judges and assistant judges.
