Permanently at the top of Europe

Hungarian courts are at the top of Europe – this was confirmed by the 2019 justice scoreboard of the European Commission where Hungary got high ranking, just like in recent years. We are at the top, even before France and Germany, regarding the digitalisation of court proceedings, electronic communication and the electronically accessible data related to pending proceedings.

Regarding the length of proceedings, Hungarian courts are permanently at the top of the EU in many types of cases. According to this year’s scoreboard, which reflects the 2017 state, the number of pending first instance administrative cases pro 100 citizens is the second lowest among the 28 member states, as well as the length of EU trademark cases. We earned an excellent place regarding the length of first instance civil and administrative proceedings in general (5th place), while the Netherlands got the 8th, Finland the 12th, France the 18th and Italy the 20th place.

Hungarian judges decide cases assigned to them not only quickly and effectively, but also at a high-standard which is partly due to their permanent (self)-training. In this regard it is worth mentioning that according to the European justice scoreboard Hungary is the second most active in participation at EU law trainings. The scoreboard also assessed customer satisfaction and citizens’ trust in Hungarian courts. A significant majority of the respondents think – contrary to opposing rumours – that Hungarian courts perform their work independently and free of influence.
