A two-day long international conference titled ‘Judicial Cooperation with Candidate and Neighboring Countries of the European Union’ was organized by the Ministry of Justice and the European Public Law Organization (EPLO) for the judicial organizations on 19-20 June 2019 in Budapest.

Dr. Péter Tatár-Kis was appointed by the President of the National Office for the Judiciary (NOJ) for the leadership of the Budapest-Capital Regional Court for a one-year term.

The next event of the THEMIS competition is coming up: semi-final D will take place between 2-5 July in Bulgary.

During the past 9 months, Hungarian courts held 2115 remote hearings, and 783 judges used the Via Video system in their proceedings.

At its meeting on 5 June 2019, the Committee of Ministers of the CE, which oversees the implementation of the judgments of the European Court of Human Rights (ECHR) of Strasbourg, discussed the Hungarian steps taken to implement the Gazsó-judgment related to the length of procedures.

The president of the National Office for the Judiciary (NOJ) assigned Dr. Péter Tatár-Kis to perform the tasks of the presidency of the Budapest-Regional Court.

The second instance hearing in the so-called case of „Death-Truck of Parndorf” has been continued with the last-word-statements of the defendants on 14th June at the Regional Court of Appeal of Szeged. The 6th, 8th, 9th, 10th, 11th, 13th, and 14th defendants, who were not involved in the transport of Parndorf made a full confession and expressed his deepest regret in the felony of continuous man-smuggling.

The international conference has begun at the Hungarian Academy of Justice, with the participation of the Visegrad Four countries and Croatia, where attendees will exchange experiences about the possibilities in judicial digitalization.
