In 2018, 132.560 civil and economic cases were brought before the courts, of which 101.000 belonged under the new Civil Procedure Code. In the second half of the year (1 July – 31 December), 57.000 claims were filed by citizens under the new Civil Procedure Code which represents 30% increase compared to the first half of the year.
The Hungarian judicial organisation pays special attention to the new generation: the training concept of 2019 includes the training of trainee judges, secretary judges and judges, however, the young generation have also the opportunity to try their hand at scientific work and get experienced in the international environment as well – emphasised dr. The National Judicial Council (NJC) made a unanimous decision, supporting dr. György Senyei's nomination as president of the National Office for the Judiciary – announced NJC spokesman dr. Viktor Vadász at a press conference held at the NOJ. The NJC heard the presidential candidate this morning.
Pursuant to Article 25 (6) of the Fundamental Law, the National Assembly elected dr. György Barna Senyei on 10 December 2019 as President of the National Office for the Judiciary by 151 votes in favor, 12 against and 0 abstentions.

The amendment of the law on the organisation of the judiciary entered into force in July 2012 has extended the competencies of the NJC in several fields. According to the amendment the Council is obliged to elaborate principles the president of the National Office for the Judiciary and the president of the Curia shall respect when making a proposal on deviating from the ranking of the Judges' Council of the respective courts upon evaluating the applications for judicial posts. The government called the Ministry of Justice to prepare a proposal for a substantial salary increase for all judges, in cooperation with the Ministry of Finance and the National Office for the Judiciary (NOJ) - announced the Minister of the Prime Minister’s Office on 13 December 2018. At this week’s Government Info, Gergely Gulyás called the current judicial salaries unworthy and said that the Cabinet intends to introduce a new wage bill by January 1, 2020 at the latest.
