National Office for the Judiciary (NOJ) has signed cooperation agreement with nine universities of Hungary. The judiciary and the universities taking part in legal education will tighten their relationships in the fields of legal education, legal dissemination and research.

A 2019. évi soros ülnökválasztás 2019. március 7. és 2019. április 30. napja között lezajlott, azonban a választó szerveknek nem sikerült a 20.SZ/2019. (II.21.) OBHE határozat mellékletében megállapított számú ülnököt megválasztaniuk. Tekintettel arra, hogy a megválasztott ülnökök száma nem elégséges a bíróságok zavartalan működéséhez, az Országos Bírósági Hivatal (OBH) elnöke soron kívüli ülnökválasztás kiírását kezdeményezte a köztársasági elnöknél.

A 3-day training session and lecturer competence development, titled „Interests and values in the European Union” has started for court secretary and newly appointed judge members of the European Law Advisors’ Network (ELAN), and participants of the THEMIS competition on the Hungarian Academy of Justice (MIA).

Today at 8:30 am began the trial of the so-called Parndorf-case in the auditorium of the General Court of Kecskemét. Great number of representatives of the Hungarian and the international media was present.
 

Preamble

 

The judicial power in accordance with the Fundamental Law fulfils its constitutional role through a transparent judicial system consisting of independent, impeccable judges.

The judicial profession sets requirements for judges that are based on stricter moral rules than ethical norms generally accepted by society.

The Government of Hungary has appointed 2012 the year of the Child-centred Justice. In this relation a working group was established by the National Office for Judiciary (NOJ) for developing the concept of the child-centred justice.

The Hungarian National Assembly – in line with the motion of the Committee on Justice – confirmed the President of the National Office for the Judiciary (NOJ) in her office.

In Hungary, the prohibition of political activity for judges is regarded as a historical achievement. The ‘conflict of interest’ rule was set out for the first time in Section IV of Act IV of 1869 on Judicial Power.

The annual report of the President of the National Office for the Judiciary (NOJ) gives a comprehensive overview of the results achieved by courts as well as the realization of strategic goals.

It is a future goal to ensure that the documentation of the legal proceedings can be checked online that will enable the clients entitled to such inspection of the file to inspect the file anywhere, anytime.

Judges

Judges pursue their profession at the Curia, courts of appeal, general courts, district and urban district courts, as well as at administrative and labour courts.

With just a few exceptions, judge positions are available by way of applications.

Except for cases stipulated in the Act CLXII of 2011 on the Legal Status and Remuneration of Judges (the Judges Act), applications for these positions are invited by the President of the National Office for the Judiciary (NOJ).

The President of the National Office for the Judiciary acted in accordance with the law in the assessement of applications for court leader posistions in 2018.

We, the presidents of Debrecen Regional Court of Appeal, Eger Regional Court, Nyíregyháza Regional Court, Debrecen Regional Court and Miskolc Regional Court, and we the leaders present at the general meeting of judges at the Miskolc Regional Court are astonished by the decision of the National Judicial Council (NJC), delivered on 8th May on initiating the removal of the President of the National Office for the Judiciary (NOJ) from office.

A Werbőczy Mundus scholar will spend his internship at the European Court of Human Rights (ECHR) in Strasbourg for the first time in history. Starting in September a Hungarian lawyer will spend several months at the Strasbourg-based European institution along with his fellows working at the Academy of European Law (ERA) in Trier and at the Court of Justice of the European Union (CJEU) in Luxembourg.

The Hungarian scholar of the EJTN Long Term Exchange Program takes every opportunity to increase her knowledge.

The second-instance council at the Szeged Regional Court altered the Szeged District Court’s first-instance verdict in the case of the accused Z. V. and his accomplices, who are under procedure because of commiting theft and other crimes in complicity. The second-instance council aggravated J. M. second-degree and Cs. M. third-degree defendants' prison sentence from 3 years to 3 years and 6 months, but lowered their penalty of driving prohibition from 3 years to 1 year and 6 months.
