Admitting that its previous article contained misconceptions about the President of the NOJ, the Hungarian newspaper HVG has issued a rectification.

The Hungarian National Assembly – in line with the motion of the Committee on Justice – confirmed the President of the National Office for the Judiciary (NOJ) in her office.

The Committee on Justice of the Hungarian National Assembly dismissed the motion of the National Judicial Council (NJC) against the president of the National Office for the Judiciary (NOJ).

A three-member Committee of the European Association of Judges (EAJ) visited the National Office for the Judiciary (NOJ) on 25 April 2019, where they received detailed information  about the functioning and the results of the judicial system and the NOJ.

Nearly half of the regional courts - along with presidents of district courts operating next to them - have rejected the radical move announced last week by the National Judicial Council (NJC). 

The decision of the National Judicial Council initiating the removal of the President of the NOJ is unfounded.

Some so-called “revolutionary” members of the not so legitimate National Judicial Council (NJC) are still making false accusations against the president of the NOJ. Their only goal is to create chaos as big as possible around the courts.

We, the presidents of Debrecen Regional Court of Appeal, Eger Regional Court, Nyíregyháza Regional Court, Debrecen Regional Court and Miskolc Regional Court, and we the leaders present at the general meeting of judges at the Miskolc Regional Court are astonished by the decision of the National Judicial Council (NJC), delivered on 8th May on initiating the removal of the President of the National Office for the Judiciary (NOJ) from office.

I have always kept the laws, I am ready for any inspection because it will only verify that I am performing my tasks with the moral decency it requires – claimed dr. Tünde Handó, President of the National Office for the Judiciary (NOJ) at the general meeting of judges reacting to the actions taken by the National Judicial Council (NJC). On Wednesday the NJC decided to turn to the Hungarian National Assembly to initiate the removal of the President of the NOJ from office. 

The President of the National Office for the Judiciary acted in accordance with the law in the assessment of applications for judicial posistions in 2018.
