The substance of the national pieces of legislation may be limited by constraints originating from obligations under international and European Union law, however, the freedom and responsibility to develop a national court system continue to fall within a State’s exclusive competence – stressed in her welcome speech Dr. Tünde Handó, President of the National Office for the Judiciary at the international conference entitled “Sovereignty in the European Area of Justice”.

National Office for the Judiciary (NOJ) has signed cooperation agreement with nine universities of Hungary. The judiciary and the universities taking part in legal education will tighten their relationships in the fields of legal education, legal dissemination and research.

The National Office for the Judiciary (NOJ) - by possessing the knowlegde accumulated in the field of digitalisation of courts - could play a major role in Hungary’s information technology export. 

The number of lawsuits pending for more than two years has been reduced to half at national level – it is a point when we need to come to a halt and acknowledge the results of the judiciary. Therefore, the reporting season is an outstanding event, when it becomes clear what  tasks the courts are dealing with – said the President of the National Office for the Judiciary (NOJ) at the press conference prior to the general meeting of judges at the Tatabánya Regional Court.

We would like to inform our clients that electronic administration is suggested for the registration procedure of non-governmental organisations and other associations in relation to the prevention of the COVID-19 epidemic. 

The extraordinary suspension of judicial activities – in effect since the 15th of March 2020 - has ended. According to Government Decree 74/2020 (III.19.)  on certain procedural measures prevailing during the state of danger the courts also operate during the state of danger, however, the measures to protect the health of court staff and clients in the current epidemiological situation must continue to be complied.

Pursuant to Article 25 (6) of the Fundamental Law, the National Assembly elected dr. György Barna Senyei on 10 December 2019 as President of the National Office for the Judiciary by 151 votes in favor, 12 against and 0 abstentions.

For decades, the Palace of Justice has been the seat of the highest judicial forum at the main square of the country. Adjacent to the Parliament building, the ministries and the Kúria, it also symbolizes the principle of separation of powers – said dr. Tünde Handó, the president of the National Office for the Judiciary (NOJ) when opening the international conference to commemorate the 150th anniversary of the proclamation of Act IV of 1869 on the Exercise of Judicial Power.
