The key goals of the national programme of the National Office for the Judiciary titled ‘Child-centred Justice’ are to protect the interests of children in court procedures and to continuously educate the judges hearing cases involving minors.

In 2017, the National Office for the Judiciary continued to treat the high-level protection of the interests and rights of children in court proceedings as a priority, and put a strong emphasis on the training of family law judges and judges hearing the criminal cases of young persons.

Debrecen Regional Court of Appeal's council lead by dr. Balla Lajos changed the verdict of the Miskolc Regional Court, reducing it for the first accused to 2 years 8 month imprisonment, plus 3 years deprivation of basic rights, for the second accused to 3 years 8 month imprisonment, plus 4 years deprivation of basic rights. For the third accused 2 years 10 month imprisonment, plus 3 years deprivation of basic rights, for the fourth accused 3 years 2 month imprisonment, plus 4 years deprivation of basic rights.

Last year, 80 percent of the bankruptcy and liquidation proceedings have already been launched by electronic means at the courts throughout the country. That means a total of 95 112 cases submitted electronically, which constitutes an increase of more than 60 percent compared with the year 2017.

What makes a judge a master of judgment? What is the role of justice in society? In addition to practical and administrative issues, such topics requiring deeper thinking have been discussed in the course of the training organized at the Hungarian Academy of Justice for civil judges appointed for a limited period of time. Thirty judges and fifteen assistant judges are taking part in the first training for the new generation target group between 4-8 February. 

Since 2013 an alternative dispute resolution procedure has been available at the Hungarian courts. During the past five years mediation process at court has become known among the members of the court system, what ensures the resort to the process in greater proportion in cases appropriate for mediation.The National Office for the Judiciary (NOJ) commenced this project in view of the European mediation practice in such a way that encourages the parties to take advantage of the mediation by giving adequate personal information and creating a financial interest.

The main topic was the presentation of the innovations of the Digital Court project during the visit of the delegation of the Slovak Ministry of Justice.

According to the amendment entered into force in July 2012 the NJC shall determine its budget for the coming year, about which it makes an agreement with the president of the NOJ. The independence of the NJC is underlined by having a separate and independent budget line in the budget of the judiciary.

The NJC discussed its budget several times for 2013 and as a result of that the president of the NJC has signed the agreement on the budget of the NJC for 2013 with the president of the NOJ on 13 December 2012.

A mai napon a Budaörsi Járási Ügyészség indítványozta egy másik gyanúsított előzetes letartóztatásának elrendelését is, aki a már korábban említett (5.Bny.62/2016) ügy gyanúsítottjaihoz hasonló jellegű bűncselekményt követett el. A két ügy egyik gyanúsítottja közös.

The National Judicial Council (NJC) is the supervisory organ – as a body - of the central administration of courts.

The seat of the NJC is in Budapest, and it has 15 members.

Regarding its members, only the president of the Curia is delegated, according to the Act CLXI of 2011 on the Organisation and Administration of Courts. The other 14 judge members of the NJC shall be elected in a secret ballot by majority vote at the meeting of the delegated judges.

Judges

Judges pursue their profession at the Curia, courts of appeal, general courts, district and urban district courts, as well as at administrative and labour courts.

With just a few exceptions, judge positions are available by way of applications.

Except for cases stipulated in the Act CLXII of 2011 on the Legal Status and Remuneration of Judges (the Judges Act), applications for these positions are invited by the President of the National Office for the Judiciary (NOJ).

On 27th July 2015 Pécs District Court has ordered one month pre-trial detention of a 42 years old man, on the ground of the reasonable suspicion of five counts of felony child abuse and other criminal offenses.

President of the Constitutional Court, dr. Tamás Sulyok took measures to maintain the functioning of the Constitutional Court (CC).
