It was the fifth time this year that the ‘Sziget Court’ tent welcomed the participants of the Sziget Festival between 7 and 13 August. Hundreds were interested in the programs offered by the Sziget Court, despite the heat wave that lasted for days.

In order to reduce the length of procedures, the legislator has started to make electronic liaising optional or mandatory for specific parties and their representatives in certain court procedures. This means that the parties may or must liaise with the courts by electronic means, without using paper-based submissions, within the framework of the legislation.

The decisions of various courts and authorities resolving legal disputes as well as certain claims based on certain documents must be enforced by way of judicial enforcement proceedings, a nonlitigous proceeding, The rules of court execution proceedings are laid down in Act LII of 1994 (hereinafter: Judicial Enforcement Act).

Judicial enforcement proceedings are of two stages, namely ordering and implementation of enforcement.

Enforcement proceedings are instituted at the request of the party requesting enforcement.

Since it is crucial to efficiently represent the interests of the judicial system while shaping and improving the regulation defining the basis of criminal jurisdiction, the National Office for the Judiciary (NOJ) also takes part in the ongoing codification of the new Criminal Procedure Code.

After the successful conferences of the last four years, the National Office for the Judiciary organises the next international two-day conference in Budapest on 12-13 October 2017, entitled Conference on Courts and Communication. This will be the fifth event of a series of annual conferences held in Budapest dedicated to the complex issue of courts and communication with a specific focus issue each year presented by both nationally and internationally acclaimed experts.

The Government of Hungary has appointed 2012 the year of the Child-centred Justice. In this relation a working group was established by the National Office for Judiciary (NOJ) for developing the concept of the child-centred justice.

We believe that people’s power exists only if the state serves its citizens and arrange their matters fairly and free of any mistreatment or bias.” – states the National Credo of the Hungarian Constitution.

The French-Hungarian Legal Day, held on 11 October 2019, focused on the European relationships, the application of EU law and its challenges faced by the national institutions, and the European – especially French – institutional solutions.

Last year 72 courtrooms have been equipped by the National Office for the Judiciary (NOJ) in cooperation with the National Infocommunications Service Company Ltd. (NISZ) for the performance of remote hearings. Nevertheless, developments have not stopped, by the end of this year, the innovative technology will be applicable in 184 courtrooms.

National Office for the Judiciary (NOJ) has signed cooperation agreement with nine universities of Hungary. The judiciary and the universities taking part in legal education will tighten their relationships in the fields of legal education, legal dissemination and research.

The second-instance council at the Szeged Regional Court altered the Szeged District Court’s first-instance verdict in the case of the accused Z. V. and his accomplices, who are under procedure because of commiting theft and other crimes in complicity. The second-instance council aggravated J. M. second-degree and Cs. M. third-degree defendants' prison sentence from 3 years to 3 years and 6 months, but lowered their penalty of driving prohibition from 3 years to 1 year and 6 months.
