A three-member Committee of the European Association of Judges (EAJ) visited the National Office for the Judiciary (NOJ) on 25 April 2019, where they received detailed information  about the functioning and the results of the judicial system and the NOJ.

The National Council for the Judiciary continued its work regarding the creation of the ethical codex on its session of the 8th of April, 2014.

 

On its session of the 8th April, 2014 the National Council for the Judiciary discussed the operative regulations of section 1, point e) of the 103 paragraph of the Act on the Organisation and Administration of Courts that ordered to its jurisdiction the timely tasks regarding the approval of the Ethical Codex of Judges.

Nearly half of the regional courts - along with presidents of district courts operating next to them - have rejected the radical move announced last week by the National Judicial Council (NJC). 

When reading the report of a respected international organization, one presumes that it is based on thorough and careful research, particularly if the report was made with the participation of judges. One presumes that judges can remain unbiased when settling disputes.

This year’s National Judicial Sports Days ended this Sunday. The program at the University of Miskolc campus was organized jointly by the Debrecen Regional Court of Appeal and the Balassagyarmat, Debrecen, Eger, Miskolc and Nyíregyháza Regional Courts with the support of Dr. Tünde Handó, President of the National Office for the Judiciary (NOJ).

The beginnings of the operation of a self-governing system of the courts

The justice system created by the reform of 1997, which entrusted the National Council of Justice (NCJ) as a self-governing body with the administration of courts, is a novel and unique formation in Europe. Given its unprecedented functioning in the ’90s its formation and method of functioning needed several revisions on the way of improvement.

After the successful conferences of the last four years, the National Office for the Judiciary organises the next international two-day conference in Budapest on 12-13 October 2017, entitled Conference on Courts and Communication. This will be the fifth event of a series of annual conferences held in Budapest dedicated to the complex issue of courts and communication with a specific focus issue each year presented by both nationally and internationally acclaimed experts.

The President of National Office for the Judiciary (NOJ) set out the following strategic goals:

The Basic Law – and a number of international treaties – ensure that everybody in Hungary has the right to justice. It is a basic requirement of the rule of law that legislation guarantees the enforceability of rights granted in acts and regulations through the judiciary system.

The second-instance council at the Szeged Regional Court altered the Szeged District Court’s first-instance verdict in the case of the accused Z. V. and his accomplices, who are under procedure because of commiting theft and other crimes in complicity. The second-instance council aggravated J. M. second-degree and Cs. M. third-degree defendants' prison sentence from 3 years to 3 years and 6 months, but lowered their penalty of driving prohibition from 3 years to 1 year and 6 months.
